The Reference / Technology Librarian is a management position providing Reference Services and Technology support and is responsible for library operation in the Director’s absence. Work involves administrative support including budgeting and financial reporting, coordinating with other library services, and collection development and maintenance. Considerable knowledge, skill, and ability in every phase of the public library field, particularly as it relates to reference services and technology trends, is a must.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide assistance to all library visitors in the use of the library, including general questions, research, the Internet, electronic resources, readers’ advisory, and library computers and materials.
- Offer mentorship opportunities for patrons in need of assistance.
- Supervise and coordinate the operations of Reference Services with other library services and functions.
- Serve as the library’s CWMARS Coordinator and maintain the library website.
- Oversee and perform digitization, preservation, and archiving historical photos, materials, and artifacts.
- Assist in the planning for programming, marketing, implementation, evaluation, and reporting of large scale multi-faceted projects.
- Write grants to support library initiative and special projects.
- Coordinate and communicate programs with the programming paralibrarian. Develop, evaluate, and present library programs and services to meet specific needs of adults; develop and teach computer classes and other related instructional content.
- Assist in developing general facilities planning to reflect the latest library and technology trends.
- Provide administrative support to the Director such as assisting in preparing the annual budget, particularly as it relates to Adult Services. Share responsibility of opening the library. Assist with data collection, budget preparation, payroll or warrants as needed. Recommend and assist in development of policy and procedure updates.
- Monitor the condition of the Adult Services area and the security of the adult collection; oversee proper use of library computers and provide technical support as needed.
- Serve as a liaison with members of the library and others to coordinate activities and exchange information.
- Assist in drafting and updating Adult Services policies.
- Coordinate public use of the library’s conference room.
- Attend professional development workshops, seminars, webinars, and classes on a variety of current issues to stay up to date with knowledge and trends regarding technology, instructional design, and reference services.
- Provide support at the circulation desk or youth services desk as needed.
- Assist with statistical and analytical evaluations for all major Adult Programming events.
- Perform other related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Position requires a master’s degree in library science from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a professional librarian in Reference / Adult Services. Some supervisory and grant writing experience preferred. Applicant must be able to pay attention to detail; maintain professional working relationships with other employees and the public; and be a self-starter and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills; be willing to attend various professional development workshops, seminars, etc. to stay current with knowledge and trends regarding technology, instructional design, and reference services. Regular and punctual attendance is a requirement of the position.
