Safety Committee

Overview

The Safety Committee serves as an advisory body to the Select Board and reviews matters related to public safety associated with certain licenses, permits, and site plan applications. The Committee evaluates proposals and requests to help ensure that adequate safety measures are in place for residents, businesses, visitors, and emergency responders.

The Committee reviews applications, considers potential impacts, and provides recommendations to the Select Board for further action. While the Committee does not grant approvals, its review helps identify safety considerations early in the process and supports informed decision-making.

The Committee Reviews Requests For:

  • Class I, II, III Licenses
  • Site Plan Reviews
  • Special Permit Applications
  • Other matters referred by the Select Board related to public safety

Applicants applying for licenses, special permits, and/or site plan approvals may be asked to appear before the Safety Committee. During these meetings, applicants may be asked to clarify operational details, traffic flow, parking, fire access, emergency response considerations, or other safety-related items that cannot be fully evaluated through submitted plans alone.

The Safety Committee:

  • Reviews applications for potential public safety impacts
  • Evaluates traffic flow, access, and circulation concerns
  • Considers emergency vehicle access and fire safety requirements
  • Reviews parking layout and pedestrian safety considerations
  • Identifies potential impacts to neighboring properties
  • Reviews lighting, signage, and operational considerations when applicable
  • Discusses concerns submitted by residents
  • Makes recommendations to the Select Board

The Committee may also request additional information from applicants when necessary to complete its review.

Public Input

Residents are encouraged to share safety concerns related to applications under review. Public input helps the Committee better understand local conditions and potential impacts. Comments may be submitted in advance or shared during meetings, when appropriate.
