The Town of Ludlow is seeking civic-minded residents to serve on its Finance Committee. This is an appointed volunteer position offering a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the financial stewardship of our community.
About the Finance Committee
inance Committee members play a vital role in guiding Ludlow’s financial decisions. Acting as fiscal watchdogs for the voters, the committee reviews and advises on all matters with financial implications, ensuring responsible use of public funds. Responsibilities are outlined in M.G.L. Chapter 39, §16.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Budget Review & Recommendation: Evaluate and recommend a balanced town budget, including capital requests and fiscal policies.
- Fiscal Oversight: Analyze financial matters and advise on warrant articles and spending proposals.
- Reserve Fund Management: Oversee the Reserve Fund to address unexpected or extraordinary town expenses.
- Advisory Role: Provide financial insight and guidance to town meeting voters.
- Fund Transfers: Approve departmental fund transfers and allocate Reserve Fund support as needed.
Time Commitment
Members typically meet monthly on the third Wednesday from September through June, with additional meetings scheduled as needed. Meetings are generally 1–2 hours long, and members may occasionally conduct research outside of meeting times.
Who Should Apply
Anyone with a willingness to serve and learn is encouraged to apply. While finance or business experience is helpful, it is not required. This is a great opportunity to get involved in local government and help shape Ludlow’s financial future.
