Overview

The Hubbard Memorial Library Board of Trustees is the governing body that oversees the policies, planning, and overall direction of the Hubbard Memorial Library at 24 Center Street in Ludlow. The Board works with the Library Director to ensure the library remains a welcoming, well‑managed, and fiscally responsible resource for the community.

Mission and Role

The Board of Trustees is responsible for protecting the long‑term health of the library as a public institution. Trustees help shape the library’s mission, advocate for adequate funding, and support services that meet the educational, informational, and cultural needs of Ludlow residents. They also serve as a link between the library and the community, listening to patron feedback and promoting the use of library resources and programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adopt and review library policies, including circulation, behavior, meeting room use, and collection development.
  • Hire, evaluate, and support the Library Director, and work collaboratively on strategic planning and goal setting.
  • Oversee the library budget at the policy level, advocate for municipal and state funding, and support grant and gift opportunities.
  • Ensure that the library complies with applicable laws, regulations, and standards for public libraries.
  • Promote the library within the community and encourage partnerships with schools, community groups, and town departments.
