The purpose of this position is to perform various duties at the Hubbard Memorial Library. Responsibilities include shelving books, shelf reading, pulling holds, assisting with circulation tasks, performing routine clerical work, and assisting staff and library patrons as needed. This role involves constant contact with the public and is under the supervision of the Library Director. While no prior training or special knowledge of library procedures is required, library experience is preferred. The Library Page position is classified as non-exempt.
Key Responsibilities
- Assists with the daily operations of the library, ensuring order and cleanliness including light dusting and tidying up.
- Returns library materials to their proper location on the shelves.
- Maintains the organization of shelved materials by performing shelf reading.
- Retrieves requested materials from the shelves.
- Checks books in and out at the circulation desk as needed.
- Empties the book drop.
- Sorts and shelves books according to the Dewey Decimal System.
- Routinely clears tables of books, magazines, etc. during open hours.
- Shelves returned materials promptly.
- May perform additional circulation tasks, such as collecting fines, processing new patron applications, and other duties as required at the Circulation Desk.
- Reads the shelves and shifts books in crowded areas to maintain organization.
- Assists patrons using the copier, and/or releasing print jobs, and answers the telephone.
- Performs duties as assigned by the Library Director and Circulation staff members.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualified applicants must be able to file alphabetically and numerically and follow written and verbal instructions. Proficiency with current technology is required. Must possess excellent communication skills and the ability to relate well with co-workers and the public, including both adults and children. Must be accountable to be present and on time for scheduled hours. Qualified applicants under 18 years of age will be required to provide an authorized work permit; Candidate is subject to passing a CORI and preemploymentS physical.
