Part-Time Senior Center Activities Assistant

General Summary

The Activities Assistant reports to the Director and provides support to the Director, Assistant Director, and Activities Director in planning and implementing a variety of activities, programs, and special events at the Senior Center.  This position requires a flexible schedule, including some evening hours.  Candidate must be able to work Tuesday evenings with hours subject to change as needed. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide program support to help facilitate daily, weekly, and monthly events and activities at a very busy Senior Center.
  • Help market programs through Senior Center announcements and informational flyers.
  • Assist with the dining program when needed, including serving lunch and dessert.
  • Collaborate with staff members to create, coordinate and support activities and programs.
  • Create new programs or activities for the Senior Center such as arts and crafts, cultural presentations, or guest speakers.
  • Ensure proper event preparation, including room setup and provision of necessary supplies.
  • Provide front desk coverage and assist with incoming calls as needed.
  • Attend training as deemed appropriate by the Director.
  • Performs similar or related duties as required and assigned by the Director of designee.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualified applicants must possess an associate’s degree in Human Services, Gerontology, Recreation, or a closely related field. A minimum of three years’ experience working with older adults is required, or an equivalent combination of experience, training and education that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties outlined above.  Candidates must be willing to obtain CPR, AED and First Aid certification, as well as complete any additional training required by the Town. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a CORI check and pre-employment physical.
